This 6-week workshop, led by author Anya Johanna DeNiro, is built to support fiction writers at any level of their writing journey. The focus will be on supportive feedback and community to help you become a better writer, and to foster a practice of writing. There will also be time in class devoted to learning the most effective ways for workshopping a piece of fiction. No previous workshop experience is required.
In addition to weekly workshops, we will do close, attentive readings of short works of fiction by writers such as Bruno Schulz, Grace Paley, and Aimee Bender in order to glean insights about craft. Tuition includes a a half-hour one-on-one virtual meeting with Anya for a deeper dive into your work. Classes will meet once a week on Zoom on Wednesdays at 7pm to 9:15pm ET from May 6 to June 10.
Students must submit a 3000-5000 word novel excerpt or short story to workshop in class. Submissions are due Wednesday, April 22. More information will be provided upon enrollment.
Registration for One Story’s open level workshops is on a first-come, first served basis. No application or writing sample is required to be admitted into the class. All levels of writing and workshop experience are welcomed. Class time will include both discussion of student work, assigned readings, and conversations about craft and practice.
We have a limited number of scholarships for this class. Scholarships cover 50% of tuition. Recipients will be selected at random. The deadline to request a scholarship is Monday, April 13. All applicants will be notified by Tuesday, April 21. You can request a scholarship here.
