Site-Specific Writing Classes in Brooklyn

An inspirational setting can jumpstart the imagination. Just as artists sketch in museums or on a busy sidewalk, taking a writer away from their desk and engaging them in the world can bring new life to their work. To further this, One Story is hosting two site-specific writing classes in Brooklyn this June. Each class is limited to 30 people. Join us for a field trip!

Saturday, June 7: Green-Wood Cemetery

Our first site-specific class will take place at Green-Wood Cemetery, on June 7, 2025 from 1:30pm–5:30pm. Get inspired at Brooklyn’s largest National Historic Landmark, featuring 478 beautiful acres filled with gothic architecture, American history, and over half a million interred. Our class will include a guided tour of Green-Wood’s highlights, a craft lecture by Hannah Tinti, a series of generative exercises, and a reading of student work over a drink (on us!) at nearby Minnie’s Bar at the end of class.

Saturday, June 14: Coney Island

Our second site-specific class will take place at Coney Island on June 14, 2025 from 11:00 am–3:00 pm. Be inspired by the iconic amusement park, colorful characters, and rich history of this beachside attraction. Our class will include a guided tour of the Boardwalk and Coney Island Museum, a craft lecture by Hannah Tinti, a series of generative exercises, and a reading of student work.
