The next lecture in our 2025 Lecture Series takes place Saturday, April 26, from 4-5:15pm ET with Libby Flores, author of OS #305, “The Past Collects Its Debts.” Libby will be lecturing on objects in fiction.
Object Lessons
When mining a character, a writer can use objects to propel action and reveal their character’s desires. Writers can discover who a character is by picking their pockets. Objects hold power, trigger memories, and can sometimes expose a weakness or even a character’s secret. In this craft lecture, we will look at examples of powerful objects in stories and I will take you through generative exercises where you can utilize the most common or quotidian article to empower your characters and infuse your story with conflict.
This is part of our 2025 Lecture Series. You can purchase the entire series by going here.
