Join us for a field trip! An inspirational setting can jumpstart the imagination. Just as artists sketch in museums or on a busy sidewalk, taking a writer away from their desk and engaging them in the world can bring new life to their work. This site-specific class takes place at Jane’s Carousel and Brooklyn Bridge Park on June 27, 2026.

Trace the transformation of the park’s six piers from their industrial origin to the present day and train your observational skills with a writing prompt at Jane’s Carousel. You’ll gather inspiration from a guided tour, a craft lecture by Irina Reyn, a generative writing exercise, and a reading of student work.

About Irina Reyn:

Irina Reyn is the author of three novels, What Happened to Anna K., The Imperial Wife and Mother Country. Her work has appeared in One Story, Ploughshares, Tin House, LitHub, The New York Times Book Review, and many other publications. She teaches creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh.
